I just returned from my home, the beautiful, sunny island of Barbados on a travel agency country visit. I was so privileged to be invited by Barbados Tourism Authority with other travel agents interested in seeing what Barbados has to offer as well as getting the chance to visit hotel properties. The purpose of these trips is to become familiarized with the destination, cruise ship, hotel, etc., so that we as travel agents become more knowledgeable when selling the destination. And, of course, the main goal is to sell the destination. It's easier to sell it once you know it and have seen it.
Barbados is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Yes, of course I'm a little biased, but there is no feeling like stepping out of the airplane onto the tarmac, feeling the hot sun kiss your face, and smelling that fresh Bajan air. I was so excited to be there as I hadn't been back for a visit in two years. A lot has changed.
I was so excited for the other travel agents to see Barbados. A lot of them did not know that I was from there as I did not broadcast it. They found out during the days and some others spread the news. It was fantastic to see the oohs and aahs as they visited the properties. I was intrigued myself, as I had not previously seen some of the properties we visited.
